Why You Can Reuse Your 2015 Calendar in 2026

By Calendar Team3 min read

Sustainability is in. If you have a favorite vintage calendar from 2015, don't throw it away—it is perfectly valid for 2026. Here is the math behind why.

The 2026 Calendar Profile

To find a matching calendar, we need two variables to match:

  1. Leap Year Status: 2026 is a Common Year (365 days).
  2. Start Day: Jan 1, 2026 is a Thursday.

Any year that is a Common Year starting on a Thursday will be identical to 2026.

Which years have the same calendar as 2026?

The years 1981, 1987, 1998, 2009, 2015, 2037, and 2043 have the exact same calendar as 2026. They all share the same layout: a Common Year (non-leap) starting on a Thursday.

  • 1981
  • 1987
  • 1998
  • 2009
  • 2015
  • 2026 (Current)
  • 2037
  • 2043

The 6-5-6-11 Cycle

The Gregorian calendar repeats on a 28-year cycle. However, within that cycle, the pattern of repetition is 6 years, 5 years, 6 years, then 11 years.

For 2026:
2015 + 11 = 2026. (The 11-year gap).
2026 + 11 = 2037.

Caveats: Easter & Moving Holidays

While the dates (Jan 1, Feb 14, etc.) align perfectly, Lunar holidays like Easter and Chinese New Year will not match.

  • Easter 2015 was April 5.
  • Easter 2026 will be April 5. (Wait, actually they match this time! This is a rare coincidence).

Usually, movable holidays drift, but occasionally they sync up. So for 2026, a 2015 calendar is an exceptionally good match, even for holidays.

Conclusion
